By-laws of NCIC

NCIC is a member-owned, Colorado Cooperative which provides it's members high-speed Internet connectivity. We provide a strong, independant alternative to other carriers and foster competition in the Internet market. Members can be as involved in the decision-making process as they like, giving them a say in how their ISP is run, and developing local leadership skills.

NCIC is run by a Board of Directors made up of volunteer members. Technical decisions are driven by a "Tech Team", also made up of a group of members who have volunteered. Decisions are made by people just like you.

This structure has proven very robust for us. For example, during the decay of many Internet and telecom companies in 2001/2002, NCIC was operating with enough cash in the bank to handle replacing any up-stream connectivity which may have been impacted.

What are the benefits of NCIC?

Muscle in the Marketplace - The members of NCIC pool their networking needs in order to be able to negotiate better deals for Internet connectivity. If one up-stream ISP has a problem, we have financial and technical resources which an individual dealing directly might not have.
Stability - NCIC has been in operation since 1995, and has survived the technology hard times of 2001. If you buy service through NCIC, we will be here tomorrow to provide that service.
Wholesale Bandwidth - We buy bulk up-stream bandwidth, and pass the savings on to members. The operations are conducted by highly-skilled volunteers to keep member costs down.
Ownership - When you become a member of the NCIC you become a part owner of the NCIC. You are investing in your future on the internet.
Control - Every member has a vote. This gives you a voice in how the NCIC operates and grows. All decisions, including prices, are determined by the members, whose wants and needs are probably similar to yours, instead of someone who is only looking at how much money they make each month.
Less Bureaucracy - The NCIC is structured for minimal overhead so that we all pay less.
Freedom - The NCIC allows you to resell and otherwise use your connection in ways most other ISPs won't.
Personal Networking - Membership in the NCIC will put you in contact with other member organizations and individuals.
Building Local Resources - Cooperatives are known for providing many benefits to the local community. Beyond affordable Internet access, NCIC also helps to build local leadership and technical skills.
